Can I Drive on a Rejection Sticker?

What if my vehicle failed inspection? Yes, you can drive with a rejection sticker. While the rejection sticker does not come with any travel restrictions, drivers are still legally responsible for any defect. If you return within 15 days from the original inspection the re-inspect consists of only the original failed areas and there is no charge, after 15 days the vehicle must be completely inspected again and costs $20.00 for cars, SUV, Crossovers, light trucks, and trailers.

If your motorcycle has failed a Virginia State Inspection you also have 15 days to complete repairs and re-inspect. Should you go past 15 days the current state re-inspection fee will apply. Also a vehicle can only be issued one rejection sticker annually.

The Virginia State Inspection is intended to keep you and other drivers safe on the road. A state inspector looks at over 20 areas of a vehicle from seat belts to ball joints and struts, which are important parts of your vehicle’s suspension system. Worn brakes, tires, windshield cracks, are just a few items that cause a vehicle not to pass a Virginia State Inspection. This safety inspection is meant to keep motorists safe by finding unsafe parts and components before you experience a breakdown on the road while driving. Hello everyone. My father’s car has a rejection sticker. He’s giving the car to me and I’m gonna take it to Georgia from VA so I can get it fixed in GA and what not. What do I have to do so I don’t get a ticket on drive to atl.

  As long as you are not pulled over for speeding or some other traffic violation in Virginia, you should make it to Georgia without any issues for a rejected or expired Virginia state inspection sticker. If you plan to title the vehicle in Georgia than you will no longer need a valid Virginia inspection.

What happens if you fail a state inspection and the part you need is not available? It’s been well over a month and still shows on national backorder, what options does one have

  That’s a tough situation to be in. I would advise you purchase or order the part, then keep the invoice or order information with you in the case you are pulled over. Explain to the police officer you have made every effort to fix your vehicle. However, chances are you will get a ticket for an expired state inspection. Keep your repair orders and documentation and should you have to go to court you can show that you are in the process to remedy the problem and making every effort to comply to the law.     Thanks much, yeah I reached out to GM a short time ago and still no word on when it would become available. The odd thing today they told me to order and pay for it to show evidence to GM there is a need. The reason I mention this is in the past 30 days, I have repeatedly ordered the part from multiple GM dealers and all of them have canceled my order. This was the first individual I spoke to that seemed to grasp the situation. Thanks for the advice and I’ll go with those recommendations as a start. Not to worried about a ticket at this point as I need to be able to drive

Thanks, it’s a 2005 HummerH2 with a fuel tank leak. I finally found a GM dealer who would accept this national backorder. Will have to wait and see, if this angle works. As far as location, up in northern Virginia
