Choosing the Right Tires for Your Car

When choosing new tires consider:

The type of vehicle you drive
Chevy Volt Hybrid
Where you drive, highway, city, back roads, off road
Length of daily driving

To get the best gas mileage from your Hybrid vehicle you must have low rolling resistance tires. The wrong tire on a hybrid vehicle can lower the gas mileage by 7-8 miles per gallon. A low rolling resistance tire is designed to be more fuel efficient by reducing the pull from the road. These tires are engineered with safe but more shallow treads which don’t sink down into the road creating “pull”. They hold their shape with a firmer material design which keeps them rolling at a faster, more efficient rate. A more scientific definition or explanation is: rolling resistance is the force required to keep your vehicle’s tires rolling at a given speed.

If you drive mostly highway then you should consider choosing a Touring Tire which is designed for highway and smoother road surfaces giving you a comfortable ride.

Surprisingly, many Performance Tires offer increased safety and a comfortable ride from better tread design. If you live in here in Virginia, Mid-Atlantic or South we recommend an All Season, Performance Tire. If you spend time between off road and highway you will need to find a tire which offers a deeper tread to grip dirt, rock, and loose surfaces while not sacrificing comfort and fuel efficiency on smoother roads.

How much time do you spend driving?

If spend a significant part of your day driving you may want to consider tires that offer a softer ride. The right tires make a noticeable difference in ride comfort. A softer tire will absorb bumps and will keep you gliding along for a much more enjoyable drive.

Always consult your owners manual for the correct tire size and inflate your tires with the correct PSI or pressure per square inch.

I like that you point out that it is important to think about how much you drive when choosing the right tire. I can see why having a softer tire would be important for someone who spends a lot of time on the road. I have to drive 30 minutes to and from work everyday. Because of this, I think it would be best to get softer tires for my corolla the next time I need to get new ones.

Thanks for mentioning that you should choose your tires based on the type of the vehicle that you drive, as well as where you drive. You also said that if you spend a significant part of your day driving, you should consider tires that offer a softer ride. I think it’s a good idea to choose a tire service company that offers perks and customer loyalty programs.

I didn’t realize that tire type was so important. The article mentions that the wrong tire can lower gas mileage by up to 8 miles per gallon! This is definitely good to know since I think it’s about time for me to get new tires, but I wasn’t sure about what kind to get. Would a good technician be able to help me decide what tire would be the best fit for my car?

We are looking at getting new tires for my car. We want something that will be durable and provide good traction, especially in the snow. My dad would like to replace his tires because his current is already worn out. It’s interesting to learn that some tires are designed for highways and smoother roads. I’d also keep in mind to inform my dad about the benefit of softer tires.
